Sticky fingers about to touch a couch? Not life-threatening.
Neither are dirty feet about to run inside. The only times we should really try to stun our children with the volume of our voice in order to freeze them in their tracks is when they are about to do something dangerous. This is a hard trait to master, but I feel it is one which will bless our kids greatly. "Hey little one, you've got jelly on your hands, run quick to Mama to get them washed!"
"Wait a second, sweetie, your feet need scrubbed before you go inside!"
That'll do.
