The key component to raising a Pharisee is this: Praise your child for being good and mention nothing about Christ.
One of the best pieces of parenting advice I received is to constantly point your children to Jesus for their strength to do any good and then when they do obey or show good character say something along the lines of, "Wow! Look what Jesus helped you do! Praise the Lord, you obeyed!"
Teach and model for your boys how to cry out to the Lord for His strength and grace and thank Him for the ways He works in our heart to do good.
